Roots in the twentieth century,
vision for the future

The winery Il Colle Tinto was formally established in 2017 with the fundamental goal of promoting Tintilia, the native grape variety of Molise par excellence. Respecting the principle of biodiversity and following a strict logic of quality and product safety, we recovered a crop that in the past risked extinction, often replaced by grape varieties of lower value and higher yield.

The activity has its deepest roots in a family history that began in the early twentieth century, made of hard peasant work and a deep passion for the production of grapes and wine. Today we combine that ancient wisdom with the most modern vinification technologies, safeguarding the integrity of the territory.

Our vision is clear: to apply the farming experience acquired over the years in accordance with the most recent scientific studies on viticulture, to bottle a wine that is a pure, authentic, and uncompromising expression of our land.

"Quality is born in the vineyard, respecting natural rhythms."

The Terroir and Layout

The Vineyards of Castropignano

A unique hilly microclimate

The vineyard stretches along a hilly ridge with a density of about 5000 vines per hectare. The vines are rooted in clay, limestone, and sand soils, typical of the Molise Sannio. This specific combination gives the soil unique chemical and physical characteristics that perfectly match the Tintilia grape variety.

The dry and constantly ventilated climate, favored by the hilly position and optimal exposure, minimizes the need for phytosanitary treatments, ensuring naturally healthy and clean grapes.

The Philosophy in the Vineyard

We adopt the Guyot training system and practice targeted cultivation operations to promote a very low yield per hectare. Attentive winter pruning, bud selection, controlled spacing between clusters, and leaf thinning aim to obtain perfectly ripe grapes, harvested exclusively by hand only after careful monitoring of the sugar content.

Soil Composition

Clay, limestone and sand that give minerality and aromatic fineness.

Ventilated Climate

Constant breeze and altitude naturally limit the use of chemical treatments.

Training Management

Guyot and spurred cordon system with manual cluster thinning.

Sugar Monitoring

Strictly manual harvest only upon reaching perfect maturation.
